When we hear about becoming a 6-figure stylist, a lot of thoughts may go through our heads – They must have high prices. They must live in a metropolitan area. They must work 24-7. They must have assistants. And on and on and on.

In our class “Habits of a 100k Hairdresser”, with Tyler Gadwah from Evolve Salon Systems, he spoke to the $600k hairdresser. That is not a typo. She is a hard-working stylist at the Visible Changes Salon inside Willowbrook Mall in Houston, Texas. If you ever thought that $100k would be hard, we can imagine what you are thinking right now about a stylist earning over half a million dollars a year.

Christine Le is bringing in the big bucks and her six-figure salary we mentioned does NOT include tips. She netted $425,000 (after commission). That’s right. COMMISSION! In our area, most stylists are leasers, so let’s get to it. How did she do it?

Le joined the Visible Changes Salon 23 years ago after graduating from the Visible Changes Beauty School. She became the highest producing stylist, she is also #1 in several categories in the company, including request dollars, retail dollars, smoothing treatments and total dollars. Christine says much of her success is because she provides guests with solutions to their haircare needs. “Retail is HUGE! You spend your time standing there with the client, educate them! Engage them with what you are using, why you are using it, and how much to use.”

Christine understands the importance of recognizing opportunity. “There’s a lot of money to be made out there. Just like a baby, you have to learn to crawl before you can walk, and you have to walk before you run. Le specializes in cutting, extensions, and smoothing. Her most profitable service is cutting. She does 20 to 30-minute haircuts with an average service dollar of $70 a haircut. Without assistants, she is able to produce 20-25 haircut clients a day. She does admit to working 6-7 days a week. Her extension prices for a full application can range from $800-1600.
